ULTRA TEX™ TOP COAT
A non-textured coat of either ULTRA FINISH™, ULTRA SEAL™, ULTRA SATIN™, ULTRA KOTE™ or SATIN KOTE™ is required over ULTRA TEX™.
Trenching is necessary to form a complete seal. Trench 4 to 6 inches around the perimeter of the structure. For proper adhesion it is essential that the surface be pressure washed at a minimum of 1500 P.S.I., using a water and chlorine solution, removing any loose, flaking, or peeling paint along with any oil, grease, residues and especially mold, mildew and algae. Wire brush if necessary. ULTRA TEX™ will resist mildew growth but will not kill mildew already on the surface. If the surface remains chalky or is in poor condition after cleaning, a coat of CHALK-FORCE™ or ULTRA PRIME™ will be necessary. Rusted or bare metal surfaces must be primed with METAL-PRIME RED-OX™, Red Iron Oxide Primer Sealer. For other surfaces or substrates inquire. Patch any holes, cracks, seams, imperfections, etc., with PERMAPATCH™, Waterproofing Caulk & Sealant.
Nationwide premium elastomeric textured wall coatings can be applied with a brush, roller or airless sprayer. Use at least a 1 gallon per minute piston type airless sprayer with a maximum tip size of .027. Remove all line and gun filters before spraying. Hopper type spray equipment is recommended. Spread uniformly. If desired surface texture is not achieved, wait at least 12 hours, then, if needed, apply a second coat of ULTRA TEX™.
The substrate to be coated must be in SOUND condition. Physically inspect the surface area for missing or damaged building materials. Replace and/or repair all damaged areas, so that the surface is in sound and solid condition.
The perimeter of the structure must be trenched from 4 to 6 inches below ground level. Trench far enough away from the structure so that when you pressure wash, you will be able to hit the exposed areas without interference.
Pressure wash the entire wall surface with at least 1500 psi of pressure using a water and chlorine bleach solution (approximately 1 quart chlorine bleach to 5 gallons of water). Thoroughly remove all dirt, oil, grease, residues, mold, mildew, algae and any other surface contaminants. Severe mildew requires a stronger concentration of chlorine. When the surface is completely clean, rinse with clean, fresh water. Let the surface dry at least 12 hours before continuing.
ULTRA TEX™ and all the FINISH COATS possess excellent mildew resistance, but these products WILL NOT kill mildew already on the surface.
After the surface has dried thoroughly, patch and caulk all cracks, crevices, fractures, holes, valleys, voids, etc., with PERMAPATCH™. Use a trowel or stiff brush to apply PERMAPATCH™. Multiple coats are better than one thick coat when possible. The thicker PERMAPATCH™ is applied the longer it will take to dry. Wait for at least 4 hours before applying additional coats of PERMAPATCH™ and let the final application dry at least 24 hours before continuing. PERMAPATCH™ dries from top to bottom, so be careful when working around a caulked area since it will be skin dry. PERMAPATCH™ can be coated over before it is completely dry since it is a high solids material.
NOTE: PERMAPATCH™ allows minimal shrinkage, but the thicker it is applied the more it will shrink. Check the PERMAPATCH™ after 24 hours to gauge shrinkage. Re-apply as necessary.
If Applicable, otherwise proceed to STEP#6:
Tape all visible seams, large cracks & fractures, which are prone to water intrusion, on the surface to be coated. Apply a liberal coat of ULTRA PRIME™, at 10-12 mils wet film thickness, directly to the area to be taped using 1) brush, 2) at least a one inch nap roller, or 3) at least a 3,000 P.S.I. airless sprayer with a .021 or larger tip and lay the PERMATAPE™ directly onto the WET PRIMER. The tape must be put down before PRIMER has had a chance to start drying (approximately 15 minutes). After all areas are taped let them dry for 1 to 2 hours, then apply a second light coat of ULTRA PRIME™, at 5-8 mils wet film thickness, over the top of the tape. After applying the second coat of ULTRA PRIME™, let it dry for at least 2 hours before continuing.
If Applicable, otherwise proceed to STEP#7
This Application Procedure is based on using ULTRA PRIME™. Use the appropriate PRIME COAT depending on substrate and surface conditions AND follow surface preparation and application procedure stated on the Product Data Sheet.
Apply PRIMER COAT using 1) brush, 2) at least a one inch nap roller, or 3) at least a 3,000 P.S.I. airless sprayer with a .021 or larger tip.
Apply the PRIMER COAT at a rate of approximately 125 square feet per gallon covering the entire surface. The spread rate may vary depending on the porosity of the surface. A wet film thickness of 10·12 mils wet, which will result in a dry film thickness of 4·5 mils, is required. Let the PRIMER COAT dry for at least 12 hours before continuing.
Be sure the entire surface is clean and free of all moisture. If a primer coat was applied, be sure the entire surface was coated, if not then spot prime as needed.
ULTRA TEX™ should be applied using 1) brush, 2) at least a one-inch nap roller, or 3) an airless sprayer with at least 3,000 psi (such a Graco President 10:1 Pump and a Graco 204-000 Spray Gun or equivalent hopper type spray equipment).
Apply the ULTRA TEX™ at a rate of approximately 75 square feet per gallon per coat over the entire surface. Spread the coating uniformly to provide an even distribution of aggregate. The spread rate may vary depending on whether the surface was primed, how porous the surface is, and the texture of the surface. A wet film thickness of 11-14 mils (excluding aggregate), which will result in a dry film thickness of 7-9 mils (excluding aggregate), is required. Let the ULTRA TEX™ dry for at least 12 hours before continuing.
Be sure the entire surface is clean and free of all moisture.
Apply FINISH COAT using: 1) brush, 2) at least a one-inch nap roller, or 3) at least a 3,000 P.S.I. airless sprayer with a .025 or larger tip. Recommended FINISH COATS for ULTRA TEX™: ULTRA FINISH™, ULTRA SEAL™, ULTRA SATIN™, ULTRA KOTE™ or SATIN KOTE™.
The final coat of FINISH COAT should be applied at a rate of approximately 125 square feet per gallon per coat over the entire surface. A wet film thickness of 12-15 mils, which will result in a dry film thickness of 8·10 mils, is required. Let the FINISH COAT dry for at least 24 hours before continuing to STEP#9: the Final Evaluation.
At this time a detailed evaluation of the completed job will determine the quality of the workmanship and whether strict application specifications have been met. Be sure to check that all wall areas are completely coated, including under permanently placed wall items (gutters, fascia, shutters, etc.).
Divide the surface into 1,000 square foot sections and check one spot in each section for a dry film thickness of at least 15 mils. Remember to touch up the penetration made by the dry film thickness gauge. If specifications have not been met, determine how much material will be required to meet specifications and recoat. Check dry film thickness again until specifications have been met.
Standard product coverage on a smooth surface for ULTRA TEX™ is 40 sq. - 75 sq. ft. per gallon per coat. Rough or uneven surfaces may require additional product.
Make sure ULTRA TEX™ is completely dry before proceeding with additional coats. ULTRA TEX™ dries in approximately 2–4 hours, but it is recommended to allow 12 hours between coats to allow for variations in weather and thickness. ULTRA TEX™ continues to cure for up to two weeks after application. Dry times are dependent upon the thickness of application, humidity, and weather. Some conditions, such as low temperature, high humidity, evening, and morning dew, can increase curing times.
Clean up all spills, tools, and overspray immediately while the coating is still wet with warm soapy water. Store unused product in its original container, tightly sealed and protect from freezing. Dispose of this product in accordance with local, state, or federal requirements.
